Job Description 

The Psychologist will report directly to the Psychosocial Program Manager at the TYO center in Nablus. S/he will provide personalized psychotherapy for the families and individuals enrolled in TYO’s programs. The Psychologist will work with the Psychosocial Program Manager to identify families’ most critical needs and develop and implement customized intervention plans for families and individuals. The Psychologist will advance TYO’s holistic, systemic efforts to promote individual, family, and community well-being. Like all TYO staff, the Psychologist will dedicate energy towards improving the social-emotional well-being of the Nablus community.

What You'll Be Doing (Essential Duties Not Limited To)

  • Provide regular psychotherapy sessions at the TYO center in Nablus for families and individuals. 
  • Follow up with clients on a regular basis to monitor psychosocial well-being. 
  • Discuss client progress and needs with the Psychosocial Program Manager. 
  • Develop treatment plans tailored to families’ unique educational, financial, medical, security, and mental health needs. 
  • Research and stay current about effective psychotherapy treatment methods in Palestine, the Middle East, and the world. 
  • Coordinate with the Psychosocial Program Manager to monitor implementation of families’ treatment plans. 
  • Communicate with the Psychosocial Program Manager to share research and adapt and revise families’ treatment plans on a regular basis. 
  • Plan and implement psychology/social work practicum for youth ages 20-35. 
  • Collaborate with the Psychosocial Program Manager to develop training materials for psychology and social work practicum. 
  • Lead training sessions in psychotherapy and family therapy methods. 
  • Guide practicum participants during field work component of trainings. 
  • Mentor participants about further opportunities to build psychotherapy expertise. 
  • Gather and analyze data about families’ progress. 
  • Communicate with the Psychosocial Program Manager to monitor, evaluate, and report about psychotherapy sessions. 
  • Coordinate with the Psychosocial Program Manager to report about program observations and families’ ongoing needs. 

Qualifications

  • BA in psychology. MA strongly preferred. 
  • Knowledge about different educational, financial, medical, security, and mental health resources available in the Nablus Governorate and throughout Palestine. 
  • Strong knowledge of multiple family therapy approaches. 
  • Knowledge about social work, psychology, and other mental health research and training programs available in Palestine. 
  • 3-5 years of practical experience providing psychotherapy to disadvantaged populations, preferably in the West Bank of Palestine. 
  • Experience developing and implementing psychotherapy trainings for youth ages 20-35. 
  • Experience collaborating with social workers, psychologists, and other mental health professionals to discuss specific cases and accomplish common goals. 
  • Experience  triaging mental health cases to prioritize clients with the greatest needs. 
  • Experience  monitoring, evaluating, and reporting about multiple cases on a regular basis. 
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Ability to multi-task and provide high-quality psychotherapy services to multiple clients at once. 
  • Strong organizational and short and long-term planning skills. 
  • Ability to use evaluation tools and data to analyze clients’ needs. 
  • Clear commitment to TYO’s mission to empower disadvantaged children, youth, and parents to realize their potential as healthy, active and responsible family and community members. 
  • Fluency in Arabic and excellent written and spoken English.

Médecins du Monde Switzerland is an International and independent Medical Organization founded in 1980, that provides humanitarian and development aid to those most in need. The organization observes the principles of medical ethics and humanitarian aid and is currently active in more than 65 countries. Médecins du monde Switzerland, created in 1993, has been working in the Palestinian Territories since 1994 prioritizing the provision of quality care in the field of mental health to people in need.
Objectives         
Under the direct supervision of the project coordinator, the psychologist will contribute to the development of MdM-CH strategy in the country and will support the implementation, the quality and the consistence of the activities developed by MdM CH’s team and partners.
 
Main objective:
  • To provide MHPSS support to vulnerable population according to MdM Switzerland’s procedures and the objectives of the different projects.
Specific objectives:
  • Conduct and/or support the implementation of the activities related to the promotion of MH considered in the different projects.
  • Ensure the proper use of MDM resources in Palestine.
  • Ensure the respect of MDM procedures in Palestine.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED
Main responsibilities and activities of the Psychologist can change according to the organization of the work and to the composition of the team.
  1. Programming, management & development
  • Provide MHPSS to individuals and groups in targeted locations according to the activities included in the different active projects and the standard procedures validated by MdM Switzerland.
  • Conduct community awareness sessions related to the promotion of the mental health and psychosocial well-being to partners, volunteers, and different groups of beneficiaries based on the individual needs and the activities included in the different active projects.
  • Keep and improve a referral system for MHPSS cases.
  • Develop and adapt specific didactic materials for technical topics and capacity building activities.
  • Provide plans of interventions, ideas to approach areas and other out of box ideas to achieve the goals of the active projects.
  • Participate in events, trainings, sessions, and meetings in collaboration with the project coordinator.
  • Support the project coordinator in the design of new projects.
  1. Monitoring, reporting and evaluation
  • Provide on-time periodic reports according to MdM Switzerland and donor’s templates.
  • Collaborate in the preparation of the monthly plans.
  • Conduct assessment activities when needed.
  • Keep and improve the current data collection system according to MdM Switzerland and donor’s templates.
  1. Reporting
  • Participate in the redaction of the project’s reports for the different donors in accordance with their guidelines.
  • Report to the Project Coordinator on a monthly basis.
  1. Security
  • Participation in the security meetings and respect of the security rules set up according to the context.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology
  • Training in psychotherapy or counseling
  • Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, Advanced Mental Health degree is an asset
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive professional experience in the relevant field is required.
  • Previous working experience with local NGOs or INGO in similar positions, preferably in MHPSS projects and/or community intervention.
  • Experience in developing and conducting needs/vulnerability assessments and previous participation in beneficiary selection processes, and case management.
  • Experience in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) programs.
  • Experience in collaborating with staff from MoH, MoEHE, MoSD, and civil society organizations.
  • Previous experience in community engagement and participatory approaches.
  • Good knowledge of Protection issues
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Previous experience providing training or facilitating staff capacity-building activities and supervision sessions.

MSF-France has been present in the West Bank since 1988. The Mental Health Project of the Northern of West Bank is to contribute to the improvement of mental health care in NABLUS, QALQILYA, and TUBAS Governorates, for those people living with moderate to severe psychological disorder.

MSF France is recruiting for its project in NABLUS a temporary PSYCHOLOGIST.

Workplace                      :   MSF-France office in 15 street, Nablus

Type of contract           :   Fixed term contract 3 months (renewable according to the need)

Activity rate                   :   Full time

Wished start date        :  December 2022

 

Main Responsibilities of the position (non-exhaustive)

In this exciting and challenging role, you will be providing psychological support to patients in the running of the daily medical tasks for our project in Nablus. You will be closely working with the Mental Health Supervisor in this field, contributing to the improvement of patients’ mental health, according to MSF principles, standards and procedures.

  • The psychologist will carry out evaluation of mental health needs of patients and establish a diagnosis and a plan of treatment.
  • Inform the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and referrer patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient's condition
  • The psychologist might be asked to implement the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment.
  • Provide psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, dyads, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health conditions
  • Provide telehealth services (i.e., psychological assessment and intervention remotely via phone) as required by the context.
  • Assist and train staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities, work in close collaboration with translators in order to ensure appropriate terminology and behavior during sessions
  • Collect and monitor statistical data about mental health activities
  • Inform the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective
